“That’s a great question.”

No. It’s not.

Because you said that for the last seven questions.

Here are three things that ruin video/audio content:

  1. Filler words

You don’t need to add a “yup” or “okay” when someone else is speaking. Be silent.

It’s nuts when I listen to a “top-rated” show and the host keeps talking in the gaps.

Give your guest space to shine. Say less.

  1. Thinking it needs to be perfect

The best clips from podcasts are not perfect. They fumble with words and use second-class words. But the feeling and intention is what makes it resonate.

When creating content, leave the scripted answers at home (unless you WFH).

Let the flow lead you to productive areas of conversation.

We don’t want perfect, we want real.

  1. Starting every answer with “That’s a good question”

As a host, I won’t lie and say this doesn’t boost my ego after asking a mid question.

But when you do it after every damn question, it makes my job harder.

I have to edit them out after (to make you sound better). And it makes the episode hit less.

When creating video/audio content, what do you advise to do and to avoid?
