I wanted to die.
It was sophomore year, and I lost all hope.
I was taking hour-long baths almost every night. Stuck in my dark depression, I turned to the only thing I knew that would help: writing. Well, I turned to many things before that (I.e., God, friends), yet nothing helped.
I wrote the most raw poetry and letters of my life during that time. I even wrote what I thought was the last letter of my life.
I don’t remember how “I got out.” The endless clouds slowly began to separate, showing the sun.
But I’m not here to tell that story.
I’m here to share how writing is core to marketing. My premise is that writing is marketing.
I just can’t ignore writing’s huge influence on my life—how it was my last resort and saving grace. And this realization helped me see how much writing matters in marketing. Let me go to the beginning to show you:
I’ve clung to writing as a way to express myself from an early age.
I recall as a 4/5th grader writing a “book” and then selling it to my family.
School almost ripped that passion from me as I fell out of love with writing. The way they taught and asked you to write in school “didn’t do it for me.”
Then came high school and I began to write poetry. I remember doing devotionals and other journal-like tools to explore and express myself. Then came college. I lifeguarded and started writing a story that I’ve yet to finish.
It wasn’t until a year into college that I found true journalling. I’ve journaled every since.
Then I dove head first into the world of digital writing:
Since using Grammarly in 2019, I’ve written 20,812,277 words.
